That’s the maximum available RAM for the 2021 iPad Pro. That’s the same specs as the one in Apple’s Macs.Īnd the unit under study in these Geekbench 5 tests has 16GB of RAM. It’s not surprising that the fifth-gen iPad Pro unveiled in min-April is as fast the latest Macs as Apple’s upcoming tablet uses the same processor as the late-2020 MacBooks and Mac mini. The iPad has an 8-core M1 processor running at 3.2 GHz. ![]() ![]() The 2021 iPad Pro isn’t scheduled to reach consumers until May 21, but it’s possible lucky reviewers have the device already and are testing it. The benchmark tests were done early on May 11. To compare the new tablet to its predecessor, the fourth-generation iPad Pro has Geekbench 5 scores of 4656 on the dual-core test and 1121 on single-core. Looking farther back, the multi-core score for the fastest Intel-based MacBook ever - the 16-inch model from 2019 - is 6845. Their single-core scores are actually a touch slower than the iPad’s, between 17. That’s just a tiny bit behind the late-2020 versions of the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini. This is far from a perfect measure and it does not indicate the intrinsic value of each device, but I thought it was interesting to compare the price of each device and calculate how many points of multi-core performance you get from each device.īy this imperfect measure, the MacBook was far and away the worst value and the iPad Pro was the best.īut of course, this all depends on the measure you use.Four sets of Geekbench 5 benchmark scores for the upcoming tablet appeared on Primate Labs’ website. They show that the multi-core score for the device is about 7280, and the single-core score is roughly 1720. The 8 year old Mac Mini also fell off a cliff here, to the point where I wondered if it would even finish the test at a certain point. Geekbench ComputeĪnd finally we have the compute test which test graphics performance, and in this case the iPad Pro shot up to 13% faster than the XPS, and the iPhone 11 Pro maintained a similar lag compared to the two laptop-class devices. Meanwhile, the Pixel 4 separates itself a bit from the MacBook and aging Mac Mini, both of which are far and away the slowest. The XPS edges out the iPad Pro by 0.2%, which is basically a tie, and the iPhone 11 Pro drops down to a distant third. ![]() Things change a bit when we switch to mili-core performance. The latest iPhone gets the best single core score here, but the Dell XPS laptop with a 10th gen i7 is right there, as is the iPad Pro from 18 months ago. Obviously, these devices span 7 years and have wildly different prices, so this is more a curiosity than a “who will win!?” head-to-head.
