![]() ![]() Then you couple that with a three-year stretch where there were ten different assistant coaches that said this is us, so the first time I believe in five years now that we've gone back-to-back seasons with the same offense. You're talking about three head coaches in four years, four athletic directors in four and a half years, and two presidents. I mean, you know, an incredible amount of instability when we got here. On things learned from last year's opener: I do expect that, yeah. Obviously, we're five days away from kickoff, which is, you know, something that we've looked forward to, really, since we got back from Christmas break in January. Then the two young guys continue to develop. I think he understands that he loves his team very, very much and that the odds and chances of his number being called at some point, whether it be the first game, second game, whenever, that the odds are very high that his number is going to be called, and he's going to be ready if his number is called. Shane Buechele, to his credit, what a team guy he is. I think, you know, if you're extremely good about our quarterback situation, Sam has certainly embraced the starting quarterback and has had a good week of practice. Then, obviously, Elijah Rodriguez and Anthony Wheeler are two of our, you know, "just do right all the time" guys that guys really listen to. Then to have Beck and Hager being one of the true father-son combination in the history of Texas football, to be captains is pretty unique. So although he may not say much in front of us coaches, it's obvious that he's leading off the field, and he's leading in the locker room. We're really excited about our captains, the announcement a couple days ago for those guys, I know being elected for the second year in a row, and Chris Nelson is kind of the - if you had told me six months ago that this guy was a captain, I would have said no way, because he doesn't say a whole lot, at least in front of coaches.Īnd that's why I think it's really important that you have your team vote, because Chris was the leading vote getter, much like Ford was the leading vote getter last year. They're some of the best on our team at what they do. I think our freshmen that were here in the spring or during the summer, you're going to see a lot of them play, because they deserve it, because they have earned it. We've been fortunate to have - other than a few key linebackers, we've been fairly injury-free, which is to say something pretty positive about our strength and conditioning staff, considering how hard and physically tough our training camps always are. So just excited of the trajectory that we're on. So we finally were - the last week and a half or so we started preparing for our first game, our first opponent, and gotten some work against a scout team. ![]() You go through the entire spring practice and then pretty much the entire training camp, and all you're doing is playing against Texas. Every year you get to the point in training camp where you're just so sick and tired of hitting each other. So, I'm really excited to watch them play. I don't think I've been around a closer group of guys, either. We have come together closer and closer each day. I can't remember the last time I've had this much fun being around a group of guys. I haven't had this much fun in a training camp in a long time. ![]()
